Warnings: BL, a kiss
Author's Note: One of two drabbles done on my flight from Tokyo to Chicago. I was watching Secret Box and I couldn't help but wonder if, actually, a little something happened between Haru and Izumi before the end of the show.
Haru isn't quite sure what it is about Izumi, but it's become very abundantly clear that there's something. Ever since he came calling at Secrets' door, asking for protection, Haru has seen something, felt something that makes him want to help, want to protect, want to do whatever it takes to keep Izumi safe, to keep a smile on that sweet, sweet face. Haru himself doesn't know what it is and doesn't want to spend the time or attention to think on it when he has Izumi there to occupy all of his thoughts, but he recognizes that there's something different, something special, something good.
And so, when Izumi jumps to follow him to help with dinner, when Izumi smiles sweetly at him as he bids him goodnight, Haru practically bubbles with pure happiness, and when Izumi requests to go out dog-walking with him the next morning, Haru literally holds his breath as he waits for Momose-san's response. It's a yes, thank god, it's a yes, and so Haru has the joy of chatting with Izumi as they make their way to the client's home and take the dogs out, and it's not that Haru dislikes his job, but he can't help but think that, if Izumi were always around like this, he'd be the happiest man in Tokyo. He can't put his finger on why, really, but he knows it to be true as Izumi smiles up at him and giggles in that darling voice, "Oh, Haru-san!"
But then, after they return the dogs but before they make it back home, Izumi tugs on Haru's sleeve and pulls him off to the side, and before Haru can even ask what's up, Izumi stands up on his toes and brushes his lips to Haru's cheek in a quick, chaste kiss. It's all over in a second, of course, and then Izumi is sliding his hand into Haru's and giggling as Haru entwines their fingers clumsily, but even as they approach the house, Haru can't help the lingering feeling that maybe he does understand a little bit, after all.
