In terms of real life, spring break happened! In the Japanese calendar, that's the break between school years, so there's really not much happening around school. yomimashou and I took a trip to Kansai/Mie to see 9kinds, who was amazing and put us up at her place while we visited Ise Shrine in Mie (I was so excited, you don't even know. Because I'm such a freaking nerd). The three of us also hit Osaka and Kyoto, where we saw many temples, went to the aquarium, did hanami in Kyoto like bosses, and got to check out Shitennouji JHS... because yomimashou and I couldn't resist after our TeniPuri days. XD; It was a lot of fun, and I can't wait to go touristing with 9kinds again!
But now the new school year is starting up again! I've been really tickled and happy seeing my little baby 6th graders now as 7th graders in their middle school uniforms and all. They're so cute, and they get so surprised when they see me in the hall and wave excitedly. We did a Jeopardy-style self intro quiz in their first English classes, and my kids from elementary (my kids make up about half the incoming class; the other half are from the elementary taught by the other ALT at my school) were all exciting, saying they had a handicap because they knew me. XD; I'm really looking forward to teaching them this year, and to working with all the kids I had last year, too. I'm beginning to feel a lot more comfortable interacting with them in class now that I know many of them fairly well (for example, not afraid to point out their mistakes and help them fix them when I see them doing a worksheet because I know they'll take it okay and want to learn) and I'm optimistic for a great year!
On the fandom/Johnny's front, I'm super broke but I have a lot of shows to look forward to! First, yomimashou and I are seeing Sexy Zone two days in a row on May 4th and 5th in Yokohama arena! We both balloted to ensure getting tickets... and we both hit, haha, oops. So like cool kids, instead of selling two of the tickets, we're going to use them both. Yay. Then on May 11th, the next weekend, we're going to see Hey! Say! JUMP in Tokyo dome. I'm really excited, because last time we went to Tokyo Dome, our view and general experience were amazing (and we got to spy on the kankeisha, woo), so I'm hoping this show will be equally as good. And then last but certainly not least, we'll be seeing a "Johnny's Live House" show on May 26th, which is one of the dates with Marius and Sou, Sexy Boyz, and Taiga, Juri, Shintaro, and Yugo. The changing of casts fiasco for that show nearly gave me a heart attack, but... I've decided to believe that it had to have been a last-minute scheduling conflict (because if I've learned anything over the past two years, it's that Johnny's flies by the seat of its pants like a lot) because of the way the change was handled, and to enjoy the show. It's a miracle we managed to hit for a show that contains basically all people we want to see; I don't know Noon Boyz well, and if I got tickets to a Jesse/Hokuto show, I would honestly probably have sold them... I love Hokuto and like Jesse as a part of Bakaleya and as a friend of the others, but they're so awkward together that it hurts me, and it hurts me even more that they get more limelight than the other Bakaleya guys. But I'm doing my best to put all the bad behind me and look forward to the show, because if nothing else, the Crea live house has just over 500 seats, which is going to be an amazingly small house, and we're really lucky to have gotten tickets (people are paying between 40,000 and 80,000 yen for them on ticket.co.jp, which rounds to about 400-800 USD!) so I'm happy.
One gripe I do have on the fandom front recently, though, is the recent surge of upstart juniors getting pushed in Johnny's for seemingly no reason... and then fans taking what Johnny's says without ever thinking for themselves and jumping to support them. I have nothing against these kids, and I don't wish failure on any Junior, but there are just so many people who have worked really, really hard in Johnny's for a long time, and it's really upsetting to me when they're pushed to the side for people whose names I've never heard before. Outside of the people I'm obviously rooting for (the Bakaleya guys), Noon Boyz, Snowman, Takada Sho/Morohoshi Shoki/Casey Anderson/Yasui/Hagiya Keigo/that group... heck, even Reia and some of the younger ones have been around working hard for years, and for them to get passed up just because Johnny has a fetish for half kids and kids who look weird just... would be such a loss. And I'm saying this as someone who's half and who wants half kids to get attention, and as someone who loves a lot of weird looking Johnny's. It's no that I don't want these kids to succeed. I just think that there should be SOME correlation between hard work/dedication and success/getting debuted.
But there's no point sitting here whining at my LJ, is there? XD; So I'll just go back to RPing Bakaleya with yomimashou like a cool kid and watch Bad Boys J tonight and look forward to seeing my cute little first years on Monday and live my life~
