At any rate, somehow, I managed to get sick right before the Hey! Say! JUMP concert... naturally. =_____=; I seriously have really amazing health in America, so I don't know why I moved to Japan and suddenly I'm sick every other week (okay, this is an exaggeration, but still). It made it a lot harder to enjoy trekking through the pouring rain to Tokyo Dome and then being crammed into bleachers with a ton of other fans all screaming and listening to blaring music while trying to squint at nine tiny figures dancing in the distance, but... well, I still had a good time, so that's what matters, right? At any rate, I thought I'd do a little write up about the con again, but as always, this isn't a complete report, or even attempting to be a complete report. You can find the setlist and stuff elsewhere and I can't even remember it, to be honest, so... this is the high points and interesting occurrences according to me. ^^;
The first mystery to this whole situation was our seats. Usually, when concerts are held in Tokyo Dome, the place is set up such that everyone is sitting behind the baseball diamond area centered around home plate, and the stage is in the outfield. However, this time, our seats were also in the outfield... what? If it had been the Johnny's World Kanshasai, we would literally have been behind the stage watching the guys make quick changes, or something. |D; But instead, JUMP had set the place up as a circle catwalk leading to a small front stage. There was an inner catwalk as well as an outer catwalk that led to a bunch of small outer stages, and then one center stage. The arena seats only held something like 100 people (my estimate based on looking at them) and they seemed to be the most amazing seats ever... so bitter. We had sort of a back view on the stage, but we could see the choreography and MC and stuff well enough, however, when they used the inner catwalk and center stage, they were fairly difficult to see. They had also roped off the first section of the upper stands and used the front aisle of that area as a "sky stage," which made it very difficult for us to see them and probably literally impossible for some of the lower stands behind home plate to see them, but... it was an interesting setup. We learned later that JUMP had planned the dome setup themselves, possibly for the first time ever, so... we were happy that they wanted to be involved, even if it possibly wasn't as good as they had intended.
The next odd thing happened when it got to be close to start time; the concert was scheduled to start at 6 pm, but around 5:35, suddenly, Yasui Kentaro, Hagiya Keigo, and Morita Myuto randomly appeared onstage and began talking to the crowd. They pointed out a small model train that had been set up on the stage and picked some small children from the crowd to have a train ride. They led the kids into the stage and sat them on the model train, then Hagiya took the "conductor" spot and the train went around the track slowly. Yasui walked beside them and asked them about their favourite JUMP members and songs, and it was adorable... despite the fact that it seemed like most of them had been brought by their mothers and weren't really sure who their favourite JUMP member was, or what their favourite song was. Though I did enjoy the child who said he liked Yamada for his face. After the kids had a go around the track, the Juniors led them back into the audience, then picked a few new kids to try it... before going to the kankeisha and also picking up Matsuda Genta and Haniuda Amu. We were surprised (and had been hoping that they'd be performing in the show, but I guess they're too young, since it ended up going past 9 pm), but they led Amu and Genta onto the stage as well, having them sit on the train with the children and asking them their favourite JUMP member, as well. Amu originally answered Chinen, while Genta has made it loud and clear that he's obsessively in love with Yamada... and felt the need to announce this several times during the train ride, randomly yelling out "He's so cool!" or "He's amazing at dancing and singing!" He even shouted, "I love you Yamada!!!" a few times XD;; When Yasui asked Amu what he liked about Chinen, however, Amu's response was "...I like Yasui-kun too!" Not sure what he was going for there... |D;;;
It got to be about six, and they led the kids back into the audience, but... I guess someone wasn't done putting on their costume, or something, because then they began to play the Johnny's Net video teaching the dance steps to Come on a My House. It was the exact same video that's been on Johnny's Net for a while now, but I guess they wanted us to be prepared to do the dance along with them? |D At any rate, once the video was over, finally, the lights dimmed and the concert began!
They started out the concert with Ultra Music Power while riding on one of the train-cart things that JUMP often uses to go around the arena. This was great for visibility when they were right in front of us, but it took them a while to go around all of Tokyo Dome, and so we spent the majority of the time not being able to see them well. The screens that were opposite us were much smaller than the ones by the stage, so we couldn't see the screens well, either, which was one of the major problems with this setup, in my opinion. I was on the 4th level in the upper stands for the Johnny's World Kanshasai, and yet I had a better view then than I did on the 2nd level lower stands this time... which leads me to think that perhaps while JUMP did their best to plan this arena setup... it didn't work that well.
After the first few songs, JUMP introduced their guests! We had known from fanclub emails, etc, that Sexy Zone was going to be present in order to celebrate their own fanclub being opened (dammit life was so much cheaper and easier for me when they were lumped in with the Juniors...) but what we hadn't known in advance was that ABC-Z was going to be performing, as well! I was excited-- I like ABC-Z a lot, but not enough to pay to go to their concerts, so I'm always happy when I get a chance to see them perform live!
After Ultra Music Power and Dreams Come True, JUMP performed some of their newer singles, first Super Delicate, and then Hitomi no Screen. During Super Delicate, Yuto couldn't stop laughing during the fanservice with Yamada, which was cute... clearly he's done that fanservice bit one too many times. XD; And then, it was nice to see the whole group (rather than just Yamada) do Hitomi no Screen, and for that number, we had Inoo standing on the small stage in front of us, which was beautiful and fabulous ♥ Inoo just seems so happy to be done with college and to really be able to devote himself to JUMP, and I'm really happy for him! I bought all of his goods to support him~
Some time during the first half of the concert, all of JUMP rode on the little train too, which was really cute. The thing was tiny, so I'm surprised a bunch of teenage to 20-something boys sitting on it didn't break it, but it was adorable to see them all messing around with it! Yabu and Takaki cuddled up together, and Chinen and Yuto were lounging on top of the train and generally being goofy as usual!
After that came the first 7 and BEST corners. First, BEST did School Days, complete with school uniforms and silly glasses, and then they did a song that I didn't recognize. This was the number, however, where they were wearing the shirts with their weaknesses/insecurities. Daiki's said "180cm" (poor short Daiki |D), Takaki's said "High level of education" (presumably referring to the fact that he didn't finish high school?), Yabu's said "suntan" (I assume because he's pale?), and Hikaru's said "fast runner" (if you have ever seen the onigokko episodes of Ya-Ya-Yah, you know how slow Hikaru is XD). I didn't get a great look at Inoo's, but I think it said something along the lines of becoming popular... D: poor Inoo. I love you bb! And then 7 did the song I didn't know first, which seemed to be an introduction song where the members sang about the other members. Chinen's verse was about acrobatics and how he was small and cute, Keito's was about English and looking in the mirror, Yuto's was about how he loves photography, and Yamada's was about... well, him being "sexy Yama-chan" :| At any rate, it was really cute! Then they did Ganbaretsugo, complete with their bunny outfits from the Asia tour! It was adorable ♥
Next up, BEST returned to congratulate Sexy Zone on getting their own fanclub! Each member of BEST presented each member of Sexy Zone with a signboard with a cute congratulatory message; Yabu gave Kento one awarding him his own fanclub ID number, Takaki gave Fuma a message about treasuring his friends, which was adorable, and Inoo gave Sou a trolly message about how Inoo was Sou's fan, but the high point for me was Daiki's message to Marius and Hikaru's message to Shori. Daiki wrote his signboard in German! It was adorable and, according to my German friend, in actually correct German, saying "sorry you have to share this moment with us." He had also written a small message on the back apologizing for keeping the signboard in his pants while he came onto the stage?? I don't even know, but it was adorable. Daiki and Marius seem to get along well, according to what they say on Shounen Club, so it was really cute. And then Hikaru had written a haiku for Shori, and had drawn an illustration of Shori on the back! It was really adorable, and Shori seemed to appreciate it. Then, BEST left the stage, and Sexy Zone performed their new single, Real Sexy! I was proud to know the dance steps even amongst the Hey! Say! JUMP fans~
After Sexy Zone's number, all of JUMP appeared on the "Sky Stage" up in the upper stands. They performed a few songs up there, but I really couldn't see them basically at all, so I don't remember them that well... =_____=;;; Oops. After that, ABC-Z came out on the center stage and did a brief chat with Hey! Say! JUMP before announcing that they were going to perform a new song for the very first time, and that it would be being released soon on a new DVD! The song is called "Walking on Clouds," and it definitely wasn't the work of genius that Twinkle Twinkle ABC-Z and Desperado are, but it was cute!
After ABC-Z's new song, all of JUMP came back out on the front stage to do what I personally had been waiting for: Come on a My House! Let me tell you how much I love that song: a lot. It's so full of JUMP love, of the members' love for one another and for JUMP as a group, and it's so upbeat and happy and they all really seem to love performing it, and on top of that my bb Chinen is the frontman! It makes me incredibly happy to see him being pushed and succeeding after having a really rough time during puberty, when his voice was cracking and his body was changing and he seemed to generally be struggling to perform at the level he should be able to perform at, what with his skills and experience. But more than that, I'm really happy to see someone who's not Yamada get to perform in the front and get stage time. Yamada is very talented, but every member of JUMP is very talented, and it makes me sad to see the others get less love than they deserve. So all in all, Come on a My House is basically the best thing that has happened to me since Magic Power, and I loved every moment of their performance. It helped a lot that Chinen and Yamada had a really, really cute moment, leaning on one another when they sang their bit, and that Yabu and Takaki had a really adorable cuddly moment, too! ♥ I was happy to be amongst the vast majority in screaming at seeing these little displays of member love~
At the end of Come on a My House, they got into the carts again, along with Sexy Zone and ABC-Z, and were brought around the Dome again. They sang a few more songs, but ended on a reprise of Come on a My House before the MC! I was glad they were getting a break... it was about an hour and a half into the concert, and Yabu and Yamada, who are often the ones with the most solo lines, were already going super flat in most of the songs. Even in the group parts, you could pick out Yamada and Yabu's weak singing, and I felt bad for them... but was also laughing a little at their pain... |D;; It was fun to see them interact as a group, of course poking fun at Inoo before turning to Yabu and Takaki, who were leaning on one another, and commenting, "You two sure have gotten close recently!" Yabu and Takaki had no excuse, but continued to be lovey-dovey for the rest of the MC, which was adorable~ Then, they celebrated Yamada's birthday, which had happened on a day when there wasn't a concert scheduled since it was a Thursday. They didn't have a cake for him, sadly, but Hikaru had drawn an adorable card with his chibi JUMP characters on it! I had trouble figuring out which chibi character was supposed to be each JUMP member, but he said he wants to try to sell goods with them in the future, so I hope I can see the drawings up close! The cutest bit for Yamada's birthday, however, was when Yamada said that he'd hoped to be a bit taller when he turned 20. Chinen responded by pointing to the set behind them, which was a drawing of Tokyo, and saying "look at Tokyo Tower and Sky Tree... they seem a bit smaller, don't they? So you must have grown!" It was the cutest thing, and Yamada seemed touched, too. I'm hoping that Yamada is slowly beginning to get over his insecurities and realize that all of his friends love him for who he is, so that he can love himself, too.
When the MC was over, the rest of JUMP left the stage to Yamada, and he performed Ai no Katamari and Mystery Virgin. Yamada's solo debut is something that still generally makes me angry and upset, so it was basically all I could do but sit during these, and I was in a bad mood still for the second 7 and BEST corners, where they performed new songs again. Then ABC-Z came back and did what I assume will be the coupling song for "Walking on Clouds," and then Sexy Zone performed Lady Diamond and Sexy Summer ni Yuki ga Furu. This totally saved me and got me back into high spirits, and I enjoyed seeing the last few numbers before JUMP all began to give their goodbye speeches. It was nice to see all nine of them get to speak! And then... they unexpectedly did the last spurt after the goodbye messages. Huh. It was a fun and energetic last spurt, though, and they went around on the carts again, so I got to see them up close!
We only got one encore (it was already past 9 when the concert ended) but everyone came back out, including ABC-Z and Sexy Zone, and I enjoyed watching their antics (such as Tsukada jumping off the stage and them climbing back on without using stairs, or Shori and Tsukada doing a strange derpy dance together in front of us...) JUMP were really cute too, throwing signed balls into the audience... or in Yabu's case, trying to kick it, missing, then throwing it really weakly and almost falling off the stage... |D They finished with one last go of Come on a My House, and then, despite us calling for another encore, the staff forced us to leave |D;;
They were taking sign ups for Sexy Zone's fanclub after the show (presumably in a mad rush to get a low number?) but we decided not to wait in the line that ended up being like 3 hours long (we saw them again after dinner when we were walking to the train station), since we were exhausted from the con and knew that Johnny's would be sending joining information to all the Junior fanclub members, anyway. It was a really fun concert, though, and I hope there's a DVD!
And now all I have to look forward to is the MariSou, Sexy Boyz, and Bakaleya Crea on the 26th... I want to go see JUMP again. ;A;
