But I decided I'd just write up a bullet-point list of stuff that was cute at countdown, because I honestly don't really want to write a report of a Matchy concert! Sorry for the informal format, but I just honestly don't have that much to say.
As always, this contains a lot of my opinions and my interpretations of things. If that will offend you, please don't click the cut. In particular, a negative view of Sexy Zone as three members, and a negative view of Matchy are apparent, so please don't read if you don't want to see that.
✧ It's always fun to go to Tokyo Dome when the city is pretty much empty! Even in Tokyo, a lot of stuff shuts down around 9 or 10, so it's just a bunch of Johnny's fans milling about XD; There were lots of girls taking photos of their Duffys and assorted other JE-dressed bears (including us!) and enjoying the illuminations at La Qua without the usual crowd around.
✧ The arena was set up without a full catwalk this year, which was interesting. I've never been to the Kinki con, so I never know how the setup is used with Kinki, but it was similar in shape to the Arashi setup from this year.
✧ Somehow, I sat in a row of JUMP fans, and none of us overlapped XD In our row, there was Yamada, Takaki, Yuto, Chinen, and of course Inoo (me) and Yabu (yomimashou). It was pretty coincidental XD
✧ The beginning was the same as usual, with the groups performing one at a time, this year from newest to oldest. So that meant Johnny's WEST led off, followed by ABC-Z, and then Sexy Zone. There was noticeably less excitement when Sexy Zone performed, perhaps because no matter what group they follow, it seems not many Japanese fans really like the three-member singles. The guys, for their part, all looked unenthusiastic and apathetic, but they did their best.
✧ It's worth mentioning that at this point everyone in my section looked to the regular spot where kankeisha and Juniors doing kengaku, etc, sit, and there was no one there. No Juniors or underage members appeared at all during the whole thing, and there was no recording, either, showing the juniors and underage members, like there has been in past years.
✧ Next up was JUMP and the crowd went wild! There was seriously so much more excitement than there was previously, it was really amazing. JUMP all looked really good, too. ♥ I love Yamada's hair currently.
✧ After JUMP came NEWS, who showed more of the Kaguya PV and it was totally awesome. KAT-TUN didn't get to live stream in this year, sadly.
✧ Next up was Tackey and Tsubasa, and pretty much everyone got really excited and emotional. Tsubasa came out wearing sunglasses and pretty much not moving around much for the first few songs, but he removed them and did the hand gestures for Yume Monogatari. He and Tackey looked so happy together, it was beautiful.
✧ The groups' segments rounded out with Kinki Kids, Shounentai, and finally, Matchy. Then, everyone came back onstage to talk for a bit and then count down to midnight. After midnight was when it became a Matchey live, though he did perform with Okamoto Kenichi (or, as I call him lovingly, "Keitodad").
✧ Matchy's next hour or so was long and boring. It was amusing when he asked the crowd why they didn't seem that excited. Why do you think?? We didn't come to see a Matchy live XD;;; Also, he mentioned that some members of the audience seemed the age that they could be his daughter, and Okamoto Kenichi responded that some members of the audience even seemed like they could be his grandchildren, which Matchy did not particularly enjoy, but I did XD;;; Go get 'em, Keitodad.
✧ At one point they randomly brought in Kuroyanagi Tetsuko, who came from Kouhaku. This of course bears the question, if she could come then why not the Johnny's groups that were in Kouhaku, but we all know better than to ask logical questions of Johnny's. This took up another chunk of time, as she was brought onstage and then went back to the kankeisha area to watch the rest of the show.
✧ There was a really cute moment between Yuto and Keito during the time period while they were backdancing for Matchy; they ran together down one of the long catwalk around like they were racing, and were super close, and it was adorable.
✧ After midnight, we found out, after not seeing them for a while, that Sexy Zone and ABC-Z had been sent home because they had Johnny's world in the morning. They left without getting a chance to say goodbye or anything, because Matchy >__<;
✧ Near the end, they all put on windbreakers for some reason, but Keito was to put the jacket on his dad, and the crowd went wild XD; They both looked a bit embarrassed, but it was adorable. XD;
✧ That's about it. It was an interesting experience to see about 90% of Tokyo Dome not really care for what was going on, but all in all, I wish there had been actually more to watch =___=; Hopefully next year, Matchy won't hijack Countdown. As I saw a Japanese fan say on Twitter, "We were tricked!" XD;
Sorry it's not much, but that's all I have to say about Countdown… And now to get to bed, it got late, sheesh. x___x;
