That being said, this means I didn't end up being able to write reports for various concerts I've seen since July, and I really feel bad about this. My most particular regret is completely failing to write a report about the Hey! Say! JUMP 's3art' concert from October, which came out on DVD last month. It was truly an amazing concert (as can be seen on the DVD!) and I really wanted to share my experience, but it just didn't happen.
It doesn't really make up for it, but I want to take the time now to sort of write up what you missed out on if you only saw the DVD and didn't attend the concert. A lot of these things probably appeared on Twitter (I don't use twitter, so I honestly don't know), but I want to at least bullet-point the things that might be useful to others, both in terms of interesting happenings and concert-going related knowledge.
Hey! Say! JUMP s3art Concert in Yokohama Arena, 2014.10.12
Just be be clear, this is the day that the DVD was recorded. I saw both shows, the afternoon, and the evening. The evening is what's on the DVD, and you can actually see the back of my head at one point on the DVD |D;;; So this only covers things that happened on the 12th.
↳ This is not my usual experience with Yokohama Arena, but when we arrived (admittedly late), there was a line long enough for goods that the staff were advising that you wouldn't be able to get through the line and get to your seat on time. Obviously, we didn't want to risk it, so we put off getting goods for the time being.
↳ Our seats were right by the catwalk! So we were able to see them fairly closely. However, over the years, I've sat in most places in many venues, and my observation is that the guys are more likely to make eye contact with you if you sit a few rows away from the front. The only time this isn't true is at butai, in which case probably the only way they'll make eye contact with you is if you are in the front row. But they tend to gaze out into the audience rather than straight down. They'll probably see your uchiwa, but I've had less luck getting waves/peace signs/blown kisses/whatever in the front than I have a few rows back.
↳ In the MC in this show, they asked if we had watched School Kakumei. We had been at the venue at the time School Kakumei started, so obviously we hadn't XD; It was the episode where Yamada floor-don'd (as opposed to kabe-don) someone, and so they decided to recreate it for us, who hadn't see it, with Keito |D; Yamada struggled to straddle Keito, who's much bigger than him, but he managed it, and they asked Yamada what it was like, to which he replied, "Keito is handsome from this angle." XD;
↳ I guess Yuto got jealous, because then he decided he was going to kabe-don Keito, with the key point being him putting his knee between Keito's legs??? Idek (I don't remember the exact circumstances), but Chinen directed this whole thing, and kept telling them to change angles so the audience could see when Yuto put his leg in between and stuff. He made Yabu be the wall, and then when Yuto did it Yabu made the most scandalized, horrified expression ever XD; They asked Yuto his impression and he responded "Wow, my leg fits right in there!!" Okay Yuto. Keep that to yourself.
↳ After the show, our friend offered to get goods for us because she wasn't seeing the evening show. She was actually able to get through the line in the time it took us to go to a grocery store and grab some food, so we got our goods between shows! Hurrah.
↳ This time we were in the middle of the low stands on the right-hand side of the arena (house right; stage left). This is about the right place to get seen, particularly in YokoAri!
↳ The kengaku/kankeisha section happened to be right behind us, and who should we see but Matsushima Sou from Sexy Zone! We were really excited to see him, and he was cutely bouncing and singing along with a lot of the songs.
↳ The MC got cut for the DVD for some reason (possibly because Yamada asked for it to be cut?? lol) but some really hilarious things happened. First, when Yamada was advertising his drama DVD being released, he accidentally said "blue rex" rather than "blue ray box" and immediately, Yuto, Hikaru, and Inoo made T-rex hands and started roaring and stuff. It was was beautiful |D;;; Yamada was like "HEY IT WAS A MISTAKE OKAY, BLUE RAY BOX, BLUE RAY BOX!!" but he was laughing along with them and being a good sport XD
↳ Next, they talked about Little Tokyo Live, which had just started at that point, and Yamada was trying to talk about Johnny's West… but ended up saying "7West." XD The others tried to tell him he was off, and his response was to be like "Oh, sorry, 'Hey! Say! 7West'," sort of sarcastically, like he wasn't sure why the others were being so nitpicky. And everyone was like UM NO THAT'S WRONG and Yamada realized what he'd done and got look of horror and was like "Johnny's West!! Johnny's West!! Can we cut this from the DVD please?? Cut it, please!!" And… lo and behold, it got cut from the DVD |D;;
↳ Sometime during the last spurt, I noticed Yuto waving in our general direction out of the corner of my eye and glanced in his direction. I had my uchiwa turned to the "Do a peace sign!" side at this point, and still wasn't paying that much attention, but then he looked straight at me, pointed at my uchiwa, and then did a really exaggerated peace sign at me. It was so sweet of him! I was really happy.
↳ Around that same time, Inoo wandered by in that way that he has, and stopped to wave at Sou! Sou waved back and it was really cute. Sadly, Sou didn't get to come on the stage at all and was gone before the end.
Sorry that that isn't much, but that's pretty much all I have to add to the DVD. I hope it's at least of interest to someone!
