After waiting until a day after the release date to get it, I got busy and, blasphemous as it is, only got around to watching the Kimi Attraction videos and makings today. My conclusion: JUMP makings were actually more interesting when they were all reckless brats who were probably driving the staff insane. Of course… that's not actually 100% how I feel, but there has recently definitely been a feeling of them being mature adults who can handle a few hours of down time while filming without running around breaking things or riding bikes in the parking lot. It's really great to see them focus so hard on work and be such wonderful, mature hard workers, but on the other hand, it's a little nostalgic thinking back to the makings that I watched thinking "I don't envy their staff." XD; It was still really enjoyable, though, and I think in the end you can tell from the end product how much more mature and hardworking they are. I particularly like the dance~

I did a breakdown of the lyrics after watching it, which is obviously not 100% quantitative unless you literally want to count syllables, because what does an "oh oh" or an "ah ah" count for? XD But I tried to make it as discrete and numerical as possible. The final count of solo lines per person is:
Yamada: 8.5 lines
Yuto: 5 lines
Chinen: 4.5 lines
Daiki: 4.5 lines
Inoo: 4.5 lines
Yabu: 2.5 lines
Hikaru: 2 lines
Takaki: 2 lines
Keito: 1.5 lines
Unsurprisingly, the big loser is Keito. Surprisingly, the second biggest loser is Takaki? Hikaru has the same number of lines as him, but Hikaru also says the majority of the "oh oh"s and get slightly more screen time due to that. Hikaru also made out super well in Chau#, while Takaki was stiffed in Kira Kira Hikare (give the shortest and presumably lowest-ranked solo line in the second verse since it was Inoo's in the first verse, and he's ranked below Yuto, Chinen, and Daiki, who had the other three). I'm wondering if Takaki did something to piss off the management (Takaki and Keito are pretty much a Friday waiting to happen…) or if it's just that he's unlucky at the moment.

The other surprising things are that Yuto has more solo lines than Chinen and Daiki, while Inoo has the same as them? Inoo has, since the beginning of this phase of Inoo Kakumei, been consistently ranked sort of just below Chinen and Daiki, but I honestly felt that both in the visuals and the solo lines, he was an equal to them this time. If anything, I felt like those three were sort of the mains for this single, and while Yamada is the group's center and therefore, as always, got the most solo lines, he sometimes was actually pushed behind or to the side of Chinen, Daiki, and Inoo. On the other hand, Yuto had more solo lines, but visually, I felt like he was pretty clearly second-tier importance? It almost felt like the extra solo lines were a consolation prize for him not being visually featured, or something.

Those are just my thoughts and opinions, though, of course. Either way, while I don't have as strong of a feeling of love for Kimi Attraction as I did for Chau# right when it came out (and what's with the really unexpected electric guitar part?) I do really enjoy it, and its first week sales are going really well (somewhere around 189,000?) I'm happy for and proud of JUMP!

Ahaha Jump's staff just think they're hilarious now instead of hating their lives |D;;

And yeah, I hope Takaki's not in trouble... ;; He's so attractive and such a good singer, come on management. (I know neither of these things are related to anyone's number of solo lines |D)

But I'm really happy for you that Inoo was so featured in this! It was fun seeing him as one of the center people in the PV ♥

And yay for awesome first week sales!!

Yeah, so I guess it paid off for the staff? XD

idk, I don't know if I find that a particularly helpful way of thinking about things? Everyone should get something, because everyone brings something to the group… I think britkit27 might have something to say about you saying only attractive people should get more?

Me too ♥ I mean, obviously. But after so long, I think he really deserves it, and he did such a good job.

Yeah |D I wonder how many of their staff have been working with them since they were babies XD

That's definitely true. It's easy to say that kind of thing without really thinking about the implications ; Everyone brings their own things to the group, and I agree that everyone should get something ♥

He did! He looked so cute in this PV~
ミランダ (大丈夫): Yamada: nervousfaded_lace on October 28th, 2015 01:45 am (UTC)
I hope at least some of them. XD;

Yeah. I mean… It's valid to want to say "why doesn't he get more dramas? he's good at acting," or "why doesn't he get more lines? he's good at singing," but once you get into a general "he's attractive" or something, it starts to feel like you're saying he's objectively better… which isn't productive, even if I've engaged in it a lot >__>; I think we both agree that we both want what's best for everyone in the group.

Thank you T___T

aww i'm glad inoo is finally getting more screentime and lines :) his voice add color to yamada, chinene, and daiki.

since i am still fairly new to jump fandom, who exactly is heir 2nd tier? yamada, chinen, and daiki usually almost always have the most lines and screen time, but everyone else under i'm not to sure.

i need to go watch the old makings to see just how much of a handful all the kiddos used to be. :)
ミランダ (大丈夫): Chinen: musingfaded_lace on October 27th, 2015 11:34 pm (UTC)
I'm glad, too!

It's pretty difficult with JUMP because things change a lot with time, and there's never really be a clear-cut second tier? I generally find that most Johnny's groups aren't like hierarchies anyway, mostly just a few popular members and then the rest. But I guess if I had to rank them right now it'd be something like:

Chinen, Daiki
Inoo, Yuto
Yabu, Hikaru, Takaki

However, that's not even really 100% accurate, and it also is very much not true in past years. At the beginning, Takaki was with Yamada near the top, but around 2009 (possibly due to a scandal) he fell out of favor with the management and Daiki became the top member of BEST. Up until around 2013, Inoo had literally no solo lines (literally! None! In any single A-side! Ever!) and then until late 2014-early 2015, he still was pushed to the back for the most part. So who's being pushed and who's being ignored in JUMP really has changed a lot over time and I don't really know how easy it is to just rank them after Yamada (who's pretty much always been the center).

I definitely recommend it! If you can find them, Your Seed and Mayonaka no Shadow boy have some pretty amusing and cute makings, in terms of old ones.

ohh girl i have been lurking forever to find subbed videos of them and i found them!! being an arashi fan really made me learn how to search the internet. if theres a will, theres definitely a way hehe

yeah i remember takaki started off with gokusen 3, and yuto was center during ultra music power days. it's really funny to me cuz werent yabu and hikaru like the popular juniors when before they debuted? and awww inoo had like 0 lines. maybe thats why he concentrated on graduating to make sure he had a backup plan. keito was another interesting one to me too. i know his dad is a sempai, and i want to like him, but hes just so quiet and he hardly sings, that i feel like his presence doenst really bring much? except for in the jump band, and his occasional compositions, but even then, its yabu, yamada, and hikaru.

and yes, their management. well, if aiba can get away with his scandal back in '04, and ohno's most recent scandal, i think the jump boys are safe.

I can imagine being an Arashi fan would teach you how to find files. XD; I'm glad that you found them!

Yeah, things have definitely shifted around over the past 8 years. Yuto was officially the center for Ultra Music Power, but Yamada and Takaki were the centers for Dreams Come True (they wrote about it in their Myojo 10,000 character interviews, so it's official), and Yamada has been the center since. Actually, Inoo talks about why he went to college in his Myojo 10,000 character interview, too. He went to college for himself, not because he ever considered being anything besides an idol. It makes me sad that people get the impression that he felt he wasn't going to be an idol, because he says straight-out in his interview, "First and foremost, I was always an idol." (I wrote a little about it here, though the topic was something a little different.) As for Keito, since he had literally no idol training before he debuted (like, none. He was a junior for a few months, that's it, because he was living in England up until debut), he ended up not being pushed to the back because, in my opinion, he wasn't on the same level as everyone else. He also has had a variety of scandals and rumours, and I get the sense that he ended up getting in trouble with the management, so he doesn't get many solo lines; it's not that he doesn't want to sing. This is all just my speculation, of course, but either way, I think his personality, his hard work to get to the point he's at now from literally nothing, and his talent playing the guitar are admirable. I also feel very strongly that every member of JUMP brings something to the group because every member works hard, does their best, and supports their groupmates. JUMP is a group that has a really strong bond between all of them after overcoming a lot of difficulties, and I think it's very important to remember that even if they don't have traditional Johnny's skills, every one of them is still a valuable and important member of the group.

Haha! Well, I'm hoping they stay out of trouble from now on.

thanks for the information and more insight into them!!! sorry i didn't mean that they didn't add anything to the group, but your right, everyone does add something and at the end of the day, even them physically being there gives energy to the rest. they seem to be really coming into their own now, and i love LOVE the fact that they can write their own songs. i prefer the songs that they wrote over the songs that are given to them. it shows their growth and how much they have matured from those little kiddies back in the old makings. after morimoto, i think their bond became strong after overcoming that. :( after seeing kpop bands, johnny's for the most part, seem to have a more genuine bond.

You're welcome! I'm always happy to talk about JUMP. XD; And no worries; it's just something you hear people say a lot ("so-and-so doesn't bring anything to the group!" or "so-and-so is useless!") and I really don't like it when every member really does bring something and that is the heart of Johnny's, so I wanted to speak my mind about it. But yes, they really are a talented group, with a wide variety of musical skills, and I think they're awesome. ♥ I do think that Johnny's groups tend to have a good bond, and I know that JUMP's is really strong. ♥

Sob, my bb T___T Still, everyone having a solo line in the first verse is definitely an improvement, and I agree that it felt like Inoo, Daiki, and Chinen were the mains of this PV with Yamada as almost an afterthought (compared to normal |D), which is a big change. Just think how unimaginable this all would have been two years ago, to say nothing of three |D;; and hooray for it selling so well~

I like their makings now too, but I get what you mean about missing them being ridiculous children |D;; as much as the staff probably hated having to deal with them, seeing them messing around was a lot of fun, in a different way XD

Yeah, it's really pretty crazy. It's honestly crazy how fast Inochan has moved to the front; he was still totally in the back for Weekender and Asu e no Yell, slightly featured in Korosensations, a little more featured in Chau#, and then just making it to the higher tier for Kira Kira Hikare… seeing all the songs he had no solo lines in in the concert was a little weird and surreal. XD;

Ahaha, yeah |D;
